On Saturday, November 15th and Sunday, November 16th, 2025, Moominvalley Park and Metsä Village will be hosting their first ever refugee support charity event in collaboration with the UNHCR! The event will include sales of original art merchandise, free distribution, screenings of Nordic films related to refugees, seminars, and exhibitions.

Metsä embodies the Nordic spirituality of "spiritual enrichment through experiences in forests and lakes" and aims to realize a more open and sustainable society. As it introduces Nordic culture, which values ​​harmony and coexistence with nature, to Japan, it values ​​"Ethical Choice," which encourages choices that consider people and the environment, as its brand identity.

Charity event at metsä village

 The film, which tells the story of a young Syrian refugee who flees his homeland of Syria amid an intensifying civil war and ends up in Helsinki, Finland, searching for his long-lost sister, is the second in what director Kaurismaki has positioned as his "Refugee Trilogy," and is imbued with the director's strong humanitarian message regarding the refugee issue.

Khalid, a young man who fled his hometown of Syria as the civil war intensified, ends up in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, in Northern Europe, by chance, searching for his long-lost sister. Having lost everything in an air raid, his only hope is to find his sister. Perhaps due to the refugee crisis plaguing Europe, Khalid is also subjected to discrimination and violence in this city, but restaurant owner Vikstrom lends him a helping hand and hires him at his restaurant. Vikstrom, too, is trying to leave his past behind and start his life over. The two, each searching for their own future, eventually become a "family," and a ray of hope begins to shine in their lives...

 This tent for a family of five was developed through analysis, research, and field testing of various issues, including ventilation, sound insulation, fire resistance, resistance to all types of bad weather, and cultural compatibility, with the aim of providing safety, privacy, and protection for important belongings in refugee camps.
 Inside the tent, tableware and solar lanterns used in refugee camps are on display. You can actually go inside the tent to see them.

 People are suddenly forced to leave their homes due to conflict or persecution. Their refugee life can last for more than a decade. They struggle to survive each day, anxious about the future and struggling to cope with it.
 The UN Refugee Support Campaign booth will introduce UNHCR's activities and provide information about the "UN Refugee Supporter" program, a fixed monthly donation program, and accept applications.

 Special carp streamers created with the support of the UNHCR will be on display by fashion designer Shibuya Zannie, who herself came to Japan from Myanmar as a refugee, and Tokunaga Koinobori Co., Ltd., which has supported Japan's seasonal festival culture since its founding in 1947. These streamers are flown in Japan and around the world to coincide with Children's Day on May 5th and World Refugee Day on June 20th.
