This special exhibition at the Mizunoki Museum of Art in Kameoka, Kyoto, features 168 paintings selected from its collection of approximately 2 works, along with archives of art and color education, and animated video works.
This exhibition was planned with the aim of "opening up new frontiers in contemporary art," one of the missions of Hyper Museum Hanno. Seven artists from the Mizunoki Painting Class have been selected, including Tetsuaki Hotta, who has persistently continued to paint "houses" for about 35 years; Itsuro Kozasa, a founding member of the painting class who has continued to paint cats, animals, and people; Satoru Yamamoto, who has continued to paint Ultraman characters; and Sadayoshi Nii, who paints adorable plant and stone motifs. The exhibition brings together a collection of energetic works full of highlights, and shares the question, "Why do people paint?"
