The sparkle of the sun, a celebration of nature and people, a Nordic festival, the beginning of summer. This year, too, metsä will be celebrating the Midsummer Festival, bringing together the quintessential Nordic summer traditions!

Every Saturday, we celebrate the arrival of summer with the summer solstice bonfire "Kokko"!
Also, on the weekend of the summer solstice, June 20th (Sat) and 21st (Sun), a collection of goods related to Scandinavia will be available.Nordic market by the lake"It will be held.
Furthermore, at the entrance to metsä, a 100-meter-long road will be decorated with flower crowns inspired by the flags of the eight Nordic countries, called "The Midsummer Spinning Flower Crown Road of the Eight Nordic Countries," to welcome guests. Each shop in metsä Village will hold daily sales of imported Nordic goods and food throughout the event period.

Crayfish, an essential part of "metsä's Midsummer Festival," are presented in a bouquet style. Fragrant dill enhances the delicious flavor of the crayfish, creating a refreshing Nordic taste.
This special one-handed gourmet treat uses a generous seven domestically sourced crayfish from Lake Akan in Hokkaido. Its striking appearance, resembling a bouquet of flowers, is also a delight to enjoy.

The "Nordic Lakeside Market" will be held on the weekend of the summer solstice!

This outdoor market offers a taste of Scandinavian summer atmosphere surrounded by forests and lakes, along with unique and memorable encounters. Approximately 20 shops gather each day, featuring famous Scandinavian brands and goods, crafts such as Himmeli, vintage items, and food.
Wear the flower crowns you made in the workshop and participate in the market and Finnish dance performance (Saturday, June 20th)!

A giant flower crown road inspired by the flags of the Nordic countries.

At the entrance to metsä, the "metsä-tie" entrance road features the "Summer Solstice Flower Crown Road of the 8 Nordic Countries," adorned with the motif of flower crowns, a must-have item for the Midsummer Festival. The giant flower crowns, elegantly decorated with ribbons in the flag colors of each Nordic country, make a huge impact!

A unique style of maypole

The maypole in the lakeside square is in the style of "Åland," an island located between Sweden and Finland.
During this period, we will be holding a traditional Finnish Midsummer dance performance in front of this Maypole. After the demonstration, you are welcome to join in.

Introduction to "Figanote," a universally designed musical score developed in Finland, and a hands-on performance session.

Let's all play the classic "Finlandia" using "Figanot," an easy-to-read sheet music system from Finland!
Since each person is responsible for one note, just like with handbells, even those who have never played an instrument before can easily enjoy it on the spot.

Usva is a group formed by volunteers who want to dance Finnish folk dances, ranging from experienced dancers to beginners from around the world. The group's leader, Salla Kajiwara, is from Turku, Finland. From 1996 to 2012, she was a member of the Finnish folk dance group Virsut, participating in numerous dance festivals and demonstrations both domestically and internationally every year.

With 22 years of experience in fire performance, he incorporates Flow Art, a technique that is becoming mainstream in Europe and America, and excels at skillful fire-eating acts, powerful fire displays, and otherworldly expressions. He performs fire shows at shrines and temples, local festivals, and outdoor festivals both in Japan and abroad.
Furthermore, his own group, Universal Gypsy, received the Luxembourg Art Award 2018 for its performance "Hito Mizu ~HITOMI~" at the Yokohama Museum of History.
Recently, his performance piece "The Fire Dance" has been selected for the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Cultural and Artistic Support Program for three consecutive years. In recent years, he has also been instructing and training fire performers, attracting trainees from various genres. He also handles fire effects for music videos for musicians.

Last year, I worked as a guide at the Baltic Pavilion at the Osaka-Kansai Expo. I'm very happy to be able to come to Japan again this year.
I'm currently interning at the Lithuanian Embassy, ​​helping to introduce Lithuanian culture and art to people in Japan.
Previously, I taught Lithuanian to Japanese students at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
I believe that Lithuania and Japan are countries with very similar hearts, values, and ways of thinking.
I hope that Japan and Lithuania will become even closer friends in the future, and that we can develop a relationship like the best of friends!

Kimiko Takahashi
While involved in facility management and business support in the nursing care and welfare sectors, this practitioner is engaged in community activities and organizational development centered on well-being, with the theme of "creating a society where people can live fulfilling lives."
We promote improvements in the operation of nursing care facilities, employee retention, and the creation of organizations that prioritize psychological safety, and we engage in activities that connect education, welfare, and the community.
Furthermore, driven by a desire to bring Scandinavian values ​​and the richness of life to Japan, she launched the Swedish lifestyle brand KNUT Sweden. As a buyer, she personally visits Sweden, carefully selecting items that resonate with her passion for artisans and makers, and the stories behind them, before bringing them to Japan.

Gustav Strandell
Originally from Sweden, she is a welfare professional with many years of experience in the field of social welfare and care, and who has put into practice the Swedish care philosophy that values ​​"welfare that supports each individual in living their life in their own way."
As an international expert for the ISO (International Organization for Standardization), she is involved in the international field of welfare and well-being, and also engages in education and research as a professor in the Faculty of Well-being at Musashino University. As a bridge between Japan and Sweden, she widely disseminates the Nordic values ​​of well-being, sustainability, and living a fulfilling life.

This year's summer solstice celebration kicks off with a "Forest and Lake Craft Beer Journey"!

Karlvaan, a local brewery in Hannō City, Saitama Prefecture, where metsä is located, and an individualistic brewery that attempts to express cultures and histories from around the world through its beers, has selected about seven breweries, mainly in Saitama Prefecture and the neighboring Musashino area, that are particular about their brewing methods.

The event will feature live music by artists, a Finnish dance performance (featuring Usva, Saturday, May 23rd), and in the evening, a "Summer Solstice Bonfire" where everyone gathers around a fire, along with a fire dance performance (featuring fire artist NOBU, Saturday, May 23rd). Enjoy a hygge moment that can only be experienced in this season and place, while watching the flickering flames by the lake.
